Go Jackie Go!Reviewed by Bernard Chapin, 2008-07-08
I've always been a huge Jackie Mason fan and had the serious honor of speaking on the phone with him last year. The man mentally remains as sharp as a Ginzu knife. I picked up this CD recently on the cheap used and really treasure it. It was eerie the way in which he talked about how poorly our American airline companies guard their planes for terrorism. For that reason he states here that he refuses to fly anything apart from El Al overseas. He said this in 1991, and, considering what happened on 9/11, I wish the CIA had hired him as an agent. He's more prescient than the government! Most of this stuff--particularly the Jews and gentiles shtick--is classic Jackie and not dated in the least. The only thing that today's audiences may not get are his impressions of Walter Cronkite and David Brinkley, but his impressions remain stupendous as always. Honestly, I could listen to Jackie all day. May he live forever!

Disappointed!!Reviewed by Robert Lyons, 2005-08-31
Informatively, I have Mason's DVD's, which I quite enjoy.
However, this CD, labelled, "BRAND NEW," contains many repeats
and
situations. In fact, at times I was ahead of Jackie Mason, mouthing
word for word the joke and situation he was leading up to me.
Mason spoke as if he was rushing to meet a deadline, to the extent
that much of the CD sounded like gibberish. For most of this CD I
sat stone faced and suspected that perhaps the applause and
clapping of hands were canned.
Mason, in my opinion, went overboard in his use of
obscenities,
loudly and in his asides, seemingly contrived for shock value.
As for me, I think that this mislabelled, "BRAND NEW," CD was
a
flop, and I would not care to have it in my collection for
fear
of the impression I would leave after my demise.
So, another item destined for my shredder.
Finally, I would recommend the Mason DVD's, which I would have
preferred with a slower delivery and less obscenities that
add
little to his performance.

Along with Bill Hicks, Jackie Mason is my favorite stand up
comedian.
While there is so much anger and frustartion in Hick's genuis
comedy, Mason shrugs his shoulders, relaxed, and observant.
While Hicks wanted to start revolutions, Mason made fun of
everything and anything in a non-committal style.
Mason, the ex rabbi is jewish, very..He says so himself, when he
always stresses in his shows that the jews find him too jewish, and
certainly his humour relies largely on the difference between jews
and gentiles, which is what made him famous.
But to pigeonhole him as a jewish comedian is unfair, because he
delivers the laughs in the other topics he tackles, from Clinton
and Bush, Shakespeare and ballet, to Newscasters and Weather
forcasts. It is his style, timing and delivery that makes him
different from the other comedians, and although some of the
subjects do recurr a lot in his shows, despite the sometimes
misleading 'brand new' tags,it is always very funny to hear.
As a brit of arab origin, many people are quite surprised by how
much I rave about Jackie Mason, especially because he tackles
political issues in his shows, and is an obvious supporter of
Israel, and my answer is always the same,
comedy, is like music, an art form that is sophisticated and can
help to bring people together regardless of culture and faiths, in
an intellectual platform and Jackie Mason, has made me laugh my
head off over the years, and for that, he is a true artist,
regardless what he is and what his political affiliations
are.
Pity there aren't many recordings of his available on CDs. In UK
where he has gained a large following, there are more titles
available, but nonetheless I hope there will be more release of
this talented comedian.
